t c- . .
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum
NO. 2003-08
March 6, 2003
TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager ,
Stephen Swanson, P.E., Director of Engineering & Infrastruct
Matthew C. Newell, P.E., City Engineer
SUBJECT: Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvements, City Project 2003-31
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the
contract for Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvements, City Project 2003-31, to Bodine
Services, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$52,515.00, and that the Mayor
be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
The Miscellaneous Sanitary Sewer Improvements project involves the following work:
• Installing new manholes on existing sewers to improve access for cleaning and inspection.
This will be done at locations where the distance between manholes exceeds the capabilities
of the City's cleaning equipment and at the ends of the sewers where manholes were not
originally installed and access is needed.
• Replacing existing manholes that have deteriorated to a poor condition or have undersized
access openings. This is to correct inflow/infiltration problems and improve accessibility for
personnel and cleaning equipment.
• Replacing short segments (less than 100 feet) of existing sewer that have failed as the result
of a collapse, severe cracking, settlement or displacement.
This work is necessary to maintain the integrity of the City's sanitary sewer system and its ability
to maintain service to the residents of the City.
