„ F _
Page 2
The project specifications were prepared by the Engineering Division. The project was
advertised on February 19, 2003 and bids were opened on March 6, 2003. The results of the
letting are as follows (bid tabulation attached): ,
Compared to
Engineer's Est.
Bidder Bid Price Over ^Under i,
Engineer's Estimate $104,390.00 ----- ',
Bodine Services, Inc. $ 52,515.00 (49.69%) ,
Entler Excavating Co., Inc. $ 84,275.00 ( 19.27%) !
Barr&Robison $ 96,040.00 ( 8.00%)
Burdick Plumbing&
Heating Co., Inc. $ 99,755.00 (4.44%)
Siciliano, Inc. $116,770.62 11.86%
The low bid submitted by Bodine Services, which is significantly below the engineer's estimate,
and that of the next low bidder was reviewed by City staff. It was determined that primary
differences between the engineer's estimate and the next low bidder was associated with
Bodine's unit prices for 5 bid items. These included pavement patching, manhole construction,
traffic control and cost for extra depth excavation. The unit prices are very favorable to the City
and are prices that Bodine will have to do the work for. In addition, the difference is partially
attributed to Bodine's desire, at this time of the year, to obtain work. Bodine has done this type
of work before to the satisfaction of City staff and for that reason it is being recommended that
the award of a contract be made to Bodine Services, Inc.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution
and bid award.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747
The City Engineer, Matt Newell, will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any
questions of the Council on this item.
