' Page 2
.
September 23 Koester authorized to proceed with an accelerated construction schedule due to
permit acquisition delays, construction contract requirements, and to ensure that
the sites are ready for Spring 2003 dredging use.
The construction start-up delays and accelerated construction schedule will require additional
compensation to Koester. The estimated costs are:
Start-up Delay Costs of Idle Equipment $24,120
Additional Equipment Mobilization/Demobilization 14,490
Equipment Rent - Additional Cost 50,528
Extra Supervisor Costs 18,729
Extra Rental Equipment Idle Time 36,685
Total $144,552
Therefore, it is recommended that the Agreement price be amended from $2,064,000 to
$2,208,552 (an increase of$144,552).
It should also be noted that Koester and Chastain are jointly examining potential value
engineering cost savings for this project. The preliminary estimate of these savings is in the
range of$50,000 to $70,000. City staff will inform Council as these savings come to fruition.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION:
None foreseen.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
Homer L.
