Newell, P.E., City Engineer.
SUBJECT: Annual Sewer Television Inspection Program Contract Amendment, '
City Project 2002-19
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution approving an I
increase to the contract amount with Tele Scan, Inc., for the Annual Sewer Television Inspection ',
Contract, City Project 2002-19. The resolution authorizes the City Manager and the Director of
Engineering & Infrastructure to increase the contract amount to $300,000 in order to allow
continued televising work in the City sewers.
BACKGROUND:
On April 15, 2002, the City Council awarded a contract to Tele Scan, Inc., for Annual Sewer
Television Inspection for Fiscal Year 2002-2003. The contract authorized the inspection of up to
150,000 feet of sanitary sewer and other sewer inspection work at a cost of$200,000.
To date, Tele Scan has completed the video inspection of over 77,000 feet of sewer and has
responded to over 70 sewer inspection emergency calls. Emergency inspection calls are
generally used to investigate sinkholes, blocked sewer services or mains, maintenance problems
and some residential complaints. It has proven very beneficial to have a local firm engaged in
televising work for the City. The opportunity to see and troubleshoot sewer problems is a
significant improvement to the City's ongoing maintenance efforts.
