Newell, P.E., City Engineer
SUBJECT: Erosion Repair Behind 2249 Franzy Drive
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution approving an
agreement with Barr & Robison Sewer and Excavating, Inc., to repair an erosion problem in a
City drainage way behind 2249 Franzy Drive. The resolution authorizes the City Manager and
the Director of Engineering & Infrastructure to enter into an agreement with the contractor for the
quoted amount of$9,600.
BACKGROUND:
Drainage problems have been occurring in the drainage way south of the 2200 Block of Franzy
Drive over the past several years. In 2001, storm water caused a portion of a ditch behind 2249
Franzy Drive to give away. This failure damaged a private fence and caused significant erosion
in the back yards of several homes. Staff had a contractor repair the damage under an emergency
wark order so that the area could be stabilized and further damage prevented. Three major storm
events occurred in the Decatur area during the spring of 2002 which washed out the emergency
improvements made the previous year and significantly added to the erosion and yard damage.
