. <br /> Mass Transit Memorandum <br /> No. 052802-1 <br /> May 28, 2002 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council <br /> FROM: Steve Garma ity Manager <br /> Paul McChan , Mass Transit Administrator�-�?,�t = <br /> SUBJECT: IDOT Contract for Mass Transit Study for FY-2003 <br /> SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council adopt a Resolution approving an <br /> RECOMMENDATION: agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT) <br /> for a grant to fund a Mass Transit Study for FY-2003 <br /> BACKGROUND: Each year the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) <br /> allocates funds for planning studies to be done by transit agencies. <br /> This year IDOT has allocated $46,867 to the Decatur Public <br /> Transit System. That amount would be matched by $11,717 of <br /> City funds, for a total of$58,584. The proposed study is a <br /> comprehensive review of the Transit System's complementary <br /> service for the disabled. Currently DPTS operates four wheelchair <br /> lift equipped vans, and it also contracts with both local taxi <br /> companies. The proposed study would look at all facets of our <br /> complementary service for the disabled, and would recommend <br /> changes to optimize this service. (Continued on next page.) <br /> POTENTIAL No known objection to this project. <br /> OBJECTION: <br /> INPUT FROM Richard Foiles, General Manager <br /> OTHER SOURCES: Decatur Public Transit System <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator <br /> BUDGET/TIME Transit's FY-2003 budget sets aside $50,000 for a planning study: <br /> IMPLICATIONS: $40,000 from IDOT and $10,000 from the City. IDOT has <br /> actually allocated $46,867 to Decatur for a planning study; the <br /> City's required match would be $11,717 for a total of$58,584 <br /> available to hire a consultant for this study. The study is expected <br /> to take six months to complete. <br />
