Newell, P.E., City Engineeri
SUBJECT: Concrete Pavement Joint Repairs, City Project 2002-18
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution which
authorizes the following:
, 1. Awarding the contract for Concrete Pavement Joint Repairs, City Project 2002-18, to
, Kinney Contractors, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$673,510
and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest.
2. Authorizes the City Manager and the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure to
increase the contract an additional $67,000 to enable the improvement of additional
concrete joints.
BACKGROUND:
Numerous streets within the City of Decatur are constructed of portland cement concrete (PCC)
pavement. A significant portion of the pavement maintenance / rehabilitation effort for a PCC
pavement centers around the maintenance of expansion joints and the reestablishment of load
transfer between the pavement joints and cracks. A significant improvement can be made in the
ride of a concrete street if the load carrying capacity of its joints are maintained or, as in the case
of this proposed project, restored. This project involves removing deteriorated joints at the
following locations and reinstalling them in accordance with State and City Standards. This
project will also include the replacement of adjacent curb and gutter sections as necessary.
Project Locations
.
Hubbard Avenue from Woodford to Illinois Rt. 48
Ravina Park Road from Illinois Route 48 to Summit
27th Street from Illinois Route 48 to Kyle
Pershing Road from Illinois Route 48 to 27th Street
27th Street from William Street to U.S. Route 36 (proposed to be added)
