- PUBLIC HEARING MINUTES -
FEBRUARY 6, 2002 page 2
4. Is this (eliminating school trippers) already decided? Answer: No, all of these
proposals must be submitted to the City Council for final approval.
VI. Fare Increases: Richard Foiles
-----Comments and Questions:
1. Who pays the cost of operating the transit system that's not covered by rider's
fares? Answer: We receive state, federal and City funds to cover our operating costs.
Any added costs for the system not covered by fares would be paid by the state and
the City. IDOT will reimburse us for 55% of the added costs, and the City would
have to pay the other 45%.
2. Will there still be a reduced bus fare for senior citizens? Answer: Yes, senior
citizens and the disabled would pay only 35, up from 30 today.
3. Will there be reduced bus fares for students? Answer: Yes,but the student fare
would increase froin 40 t today up to 60 fi.
4. Students are limited by law to no more than 60 ininutes in transit to or froin
school. You need to be careful that students who are forced to transfer buses to get to
and from school aren't spending more than 60 minutes on a bus.
VII. Questions and Comments:
1. Eliminating school trippers may be opposed to your goal of increasing ridership.
This will place inore students on the regular buses and a lot of older people don't
want to ride with the students.
2. We(Decatur Taxi) are already getting calls froin people who want to know how
much the new fare is going to be for the ADA taxi program.
3. (Request froin Randy Dotson, Decatur School District 61, for copies of the
presentation materials so that he might forward copies to the School Board.)
4. All of the public hearing you've scheduled are after the buses have stopped
running. Will you hold any hearings when the buses are running? Answer: We are
planning to hold a fourth hearing during the day, when the buses are running. This
hearing hasn't been scheduled yet,but we will publicize this hearing as soon as it is
scheduled.
5. (Request from Kiin Richter, SAIL, for copies of the presentation materials so that
she inight forward copies to her Board.)
