SCHOOL TRIPPERS
At the present time, seven (7)buses are dedicated to providing direct service to Eisenhower and
MacArthur High Schools for attending students. The buses are 23 years old and need to be
retired due to the high cost of maintenance and poor dependability. When they are retired, the
bus fleet will not be sufficient to continue the school trippers.
The proposed enhanced service requires more buses than are being used today. If we were to
continue the school trippers, our spare fleet would be reduced to one (1)bus, which by industry
standards is unacceptable.
DPTS has initiated contact with school officials and offered to work with them to integrate
students into our regular route schedules or anything else we can do to provide transportation that
does not require additional buses. Despite the proposed implementation date of May O1, 2002
for the enhanced service, we will continue to operate the seven (7) school trippers until the end of
the present school year.
