FREQUENCY OF SERVICE ,
Increasing the frequency of bus service is a proven method of increasing ridership. After '
analyzing ridership numbers and patterns, the following frequency corrections were made to I,
routes as needed:
(1) increasing the frequency where warranted by ridership, and as a means to increase
ridership. When potential riders have more schedule choices, they are more likely to ,
choose the bus.
(2) keeping the frequency of service on a given route the same throughout the day. ',
Consistent scheduling makes riding the bus less confusing and makes it easier to plan ',
trips.
(3) eliminating morning and evening peak service changes. Some routes have 30 minute I',
service only in the morning and evening peak periods, but 60 minute service at other ',
times. Again, consistent scheduling makes riding the bus less confusing. The decision '
has to be made whether a route has the ridership or potential ridership to warrant 30
minute service or only 60 minute service.
In the case of the new proposed service to the Holiday Inn and to the Enterprise School - Taylor
Road area, service every two hours was determined to be sufficient to test the market. At the end
of the six month test period, service may be eliminated, left the same, or increased to 60 minute
or 30 minute. For the test period frequency is less important than consistent and on-time
scheduling.
The following pages show the present and the proposed frequency of service for(1) Monday
through Friday and (2) Saturday.
