COUNCIL COMMUNICATION FORM
Engineering & Infrastructure Memorandum
NO. 2001-64
December 11 2001
,
TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council ',
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager I
Stephen Swanson, P.E.,Director of Engineering & Infrastructur'l
Matthew C. Newell, P.E., City Engineer,vt
SUBJECT: Harrison Avenue Storm Sewer Replacement, City Project 2001-55
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the
contract for Harrison Avenue Storm Sewer Replacement, City Project 2001-55, to Bodine
Services, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$23,990.00, and that the Mayor
be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest.
BACKGROUND:
A small storm sewer line in Harrison Avenue extends from Van Dyke to Maple. This line
collects sump pump discharge from homes located on the south side of Harrison between Van
Dyke and Maple. Recently, residents noticed that the pipe does not drain properly. Upon
televised inspection, it was determined that the line is partially collapsed in places and missing in
others. The camera was unable to traverse a large portion of the line due to its deteriorated
condition. This project will remove and replace the existing storm line.
The project specifications were prepared by the Engineering Division. The project was
advertised on December 3, 2001 and bids were opened on December 11, 2001. The results of
the letting are as follows (bid tabulation attached):
