A � <br /> RESOLUTION NO. R2001-204 <br /> RESOLUTION IDENTIFYING <br /> -STEVENS BRIDGE - <br /> Whereas, the Stevens Bridge is located on West Center Street; and, <br /> Whereas, the Stevens Bridge is named after Leonard Stevens, an early settler in Macon <br /> County around 1821; and, <br /> Whereas, the area became known as the Stevens Settlement and the creek was named <br /> Stevens Creek; and, <br /> Whereas, the creek rises in Maroa Township and meanders through Maroa, Hickory Point <br /> and Decatur Townships before entering the Sangamon River about three miles west of the new <br /> dam; and, <br /> Whereas, the Historical and Architectural Sites Commission recommends the Stevens <br /> Bridge be appropriately identified as a landmark for its historical significance. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> DECATUR, ILLINOIS: <br /> Section 1. That the above described bridge be, and it is hereby, formally designated as <br /> Stevens Bridge and that an appropriate marker designating same be placed thereat. <br /> PRESENTED and ADOPTED this Sth day of November, 2001. <br /> TERRY M.
