Alexander, Director of Water Management I�Q., <br /> V � <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Design Professional Services Agreement <br /> South Water Treatment Plant Office and Laboratory Addition <br /> City Project 2000-31 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing a Design Professional Services Agreement <br /> with Black&Veatch Corporation at a cost not to exceed $181,500. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The South Water Treatment Plant requires additional office and laboratory space due to: <br /> 1. A substantial increase in the amount and complexitv of water qualitv laboratorv I <br /> testin�. Over the past few years, due to the relentless increase in the amount and ! <br /> complexity of Federal and State mandated water quality testing, the South Water ' <br /> Treatment Plant laboratory has begun to run out of space. Additional laboratory work I, <br /> areas are needed to comply with these recent water quality testing mandates, as well '� <br /> as anticipated future regulations. The best location for additional lab space is two ', <br /> adjacent offices that are currently in use. '� <br /> 2. The creation of the Department of Water Mana e�. The Department requires � <br /> additional office space far the Assistant City Manager for Public Services and the !, <br /> Department's Administrative Secretary. Until the office addition is completed the <br /> Administrative Secretary will have her desk located in the South Water Treatment <br /> Plant lobby. Additional space is needed if the Water Projects Engineer and/or other �� <br /> engineering technical support staff are to be moved to the South Plant. Additional � <br /> space is also needed if student interns are to be employed by the Department. ', <br /> Staff proposes that a 3,500 square feet office addition and a 500 square feet labaratory expansion '� <br /> into existing office space be constructed in Fiscal Years 2002-2004. See the enclosed floor plan I <br /> for details. The preliminary construction cost estimate, developed by the engineering firm of I <br /> Black & Veatch, who designed the South Water Treatment Plant and the Nitrate Removal <br /> Facility, is $1.47 million. <br />
