CITY OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS
PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND NSTIFICATION, continued
11.43A2 Construct Maintenance Facility($ 15,000): Construct fueling station canopy.
Transit proposes to construct a 40' long canopy over the fueling station. The
canopy would extend part way over the bus lane, with a solid wind-break wall on
the western side. The canopy would protect the workers fueling buses at night,
particularly during the harsh winter weather. The canopy would also reduce the
risk of water or wind-blown debris contaminating the fuel tanks of the buses.
11.44.02 Rehab/Renovate Maintenance Facility($ 25,000): Repair/upgrade bus washer.
The bus washer is about 5 years old and needs to be repaired and upgraded. First,
all of the rotating brushes show significant wear and some are missing sections.
Second, the large water valves need to be replaced with anti-hammer valves to
eliminate the severe hammerin/vibration that occurs when the valves close
suddenly. If this condition is not corrected, the 4"water main which runs along
the wall over the maintenance area could rupture. Upgrades to the bus washer
(adding a wheel washer unit and an underbody washer, with a supplemental
pump) would improve the appearance of the buses and reduce underbody
' corrosion and maintenance expense.
; 11.44.03 Rehab/Renovate Admin/Maint Facility($ 3,257): Sidewalk replacement.
An examination of the Transit Administration Building resulted in the
recommendation that the plantings around the front of the building be removed
and replaced with concrete, sloped away from the building, in order to reduce
moisture at the base of the building walls. Failure to correct this problem could
lead to deterioration of tile waiis and signincant cosis to repair and replace the
 damage.
11.62.02 Purchase Communications System($ 38,000): Purchase new radio system.
Transit proposes to purchase and install a 800 Mhz trunked radio system linked to
City's E911 dispatch system. The new radio system would include mobile radios
with handsets for each revenue vehicle and each service truck, portable radios for
each supervisor's vehicle, and 3 control stations. This would allow the enire
fleet of vehicles to communicate with each other, with the dispatchers, and with
e er enc services. New buses built this ear will alread have the new radios
m g Y Y Y
installed; only the service vehicles, ADA vans, and the buses which are not
scheduled to be replaced will need to be upgraded.
