These segments are generally
identified by citizen complaints or staff investigation. In essence, this year's sidewalk contract
allows the City to retain the services of the low bid contractor to perform additional sidewalk
work as the need arises over the course of the fiscal year.
$550,000 in funds have been set aside in the City's General Fund for sidewalk improvements in
the City. Staff is requesting authority to expend an additional 10% above the awarded contract
amount if sidewalk improvement needs dictate. This 10%, "not to exceed" funding request could
increase the overall project up to $514,978.75, is well under the budgeted funding limit.
Staff desires the ability to be more responsive to the citizens of the City by making a strong effort
to improve the timeliness of necessary sidewalk replacement/repair.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution
and bid award.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747
Kris Quandt, Civil Engineer I, at 424-2747
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
Funding for this project is currently budgeted in the City's Capital Improvements Fund. The
recommended low bid amount is $468,162.50. The resolution also authorizes an additional 10%
which may increase the project up to $514,978.75.
The project is scheduled to begin June 2001 and should be substantially completed within 3
months.
attach: 3
cc: John Smith, Assistant City Manager of Public Services
