Kriege sistant City Manager�t SUBJECT: 300 North W ter Demolition Engineering � RECOMMENDATION: Approval of the attached resolution will authorize the City Manager to execute a contract with Blank, Wesselink, Cook and Associates (BWC)for engineering services as part of the demolition of the east side of 300 N. Water; Phase 1 TIF redevelopment project. The contract is written for a not to exceed amount of$40,000. City staff recommends approval. BACKGROUND: As Council is aware the City has purchased the east side of the 300 block of North Water to accommodate Phase 1 of downtown redevelopment. The attached agreement with BWC is for the provision of asbestos abatement and general demolition engineering services; including the preparation of bid packets for both demolition phases. BWC will also serve as the City's on-site representative during the asbestos abatement and general demolition, performing general oversight and monitoring(including air quality)functions. On or about the first meeting in July, City staff will be presenting a contract for actual asbestos abatement, to be followed by a contract for general demolition. It is expected that all demolition activities will be completed in time to allow for meaningful redevelopment activity to begin this Fall. POTENTIAL OBJECTION: City staff is not aware of any opposition to this redevelopment work. INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Attached to this memorandum are BWC's proposal, and a demolition project timeline which details the time required for each phase. BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Costs related to the demolition of the 300 block of North Water were included in the FY 01-02 '� O1deTowne TIF Fund budget, and are expected to be initially financed through the City's letter ��I of credit, and retired through future incremental revenues.
