DEPARTMENT OF WATER MANAGEMENT
Memorandum No. 2001-15
Apri109, 2001
TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council
FROM: Steve Garman, City Manager
John A. Smith, Assistant City Manager for Public Services
Keith D. Alexander, Director of Water Management r
I
SUBJECT:
Water System Master Plan
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
City staff recommends that Council approve an agreement with Strand Associates, Inc. to
produce a Water System Master Plan.
BACKGROUND:
As proposed at the Council meeting of April 7, 2001, the attached Ordinance will allow the
above project to proceed.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION:
None foreseen.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
Several Water Management and Engineering & Infrastructure staff have assisted in the
development of the Plan's work tasks (scope of services).
STAFF REFERENCE:
Keith D. Alexander, Director of Water Management, phone 424-2863.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
The Plan fee is not to exceed $97,800. This fee is higher than the $85,000 estimate presented to
Council earlier this year due to the addition of:
♦ The analysis of the quality of water as it temporarily resides in the distribution system,
and '
♦ An evaluation of the water distribution system under three (instead of the originally
proposed two) expanded water supply alternatives.
