  F
Mass Transit Memorandum
No. 021401-1 I
February 14, 2001
' TO: Honorable Mayor Howley and City Council
FROM: Steve G ity Manager
Paul McCh y, Mass Transit Administrator
,—
SUBJECT: Acceptance of one used bus from Loves Park, IL
SUMMARY Staff recommends that Council approve accepting one used bus
RECOMMENDATION: from Love's Park, IL, at no cost to Decatur.
BACKGROUND: Loves Park, IL, recently decided to terminate its transit operations,
and to release its six transit vehicles to the Illinois Department of
Transportation for the use of any agencies which desire to have
them. The Decatur Public Transit System applied to IDOT to
receive one or more of these vehicles, to serve as standby vehicles
to ensure that there are enough buses in operation to meet our peak
needs. DPTS occasionally must lease a bus from another agency
to meet our peak needs. IDOT has informed us that it would award
Decatur one 1986, GMC, 35' transit coach at no cost.
POTENTIAL There is no known controversy or potential objection to this
OBJECTION: issue.
INPUT FROM Mr. Dale Q. Fitschen, Section Chief
OTHER SOURCES: Downstate Urbanized Area Programs
Division of Public Transportation
Illinois Department of Transportation
STAFF REFERENCE: Paul McChancy, Mass Transit Administrator
BUDGET/TIME There is no cost to acquire this vehicle. However, DPTS staff time
IMPLICATIONS: will be required to travel to Loves Park to drive the vehicle back to
Decatur.
