Alexander, Director of Water Management � <br /> SUBJECT: Ion-Exchange Nitrate Treatment Facility, City Project 9953, intent to award bid <br /> pending Illinois Environmental Protection Agency(IEPA) approval. <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff and the City's consultant recommends award of a <br /> contract, pending IEPA approval, in the amount of $6,224,000 to Diversified Buildings, Inc., <br /> Morton, Illinois, for construction of the ion-exchange nitrate treatment facility. <br /> BACKGROUND: The City is required, under a consent decree, to be in compliance with the 10 <br /> mg/1 maximum contaminant level for nitrates by July 1, 2002. Ion-exchange nitrate removal has <br /> been determined to be the most cost-effective, practical method for nitrate removal for the City's <br /> South Water Treatment Plant. <br /> Black & Veatch Consulting Engineers prepared plans and specifications for the project. The <br /> project was advertised for competitive bids and five bids were received and opened on Tuesday, <br /> February 6, 2001.
