CDBG FY O1/02 <br /> FUNDING RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> PUBLIC FACILITIES <br /> 1. Applicant: Garfield Montessori P.T.A. <br /> Project: Garfield Community Playground <br /> Recommended award: $10,126.61 <br /> Prior Funding Received: No (This is a first year request.) <br /> The P.T.A. of the Garfield Montessori school, a Decatur public elementary school, is developing a <br /> playground on its property. The playground would incorporate three unique areas: a natural prairie <br /> garden, a recycling concept-zone, and a learning interactions play area. Many of the structures will be <br /> ADA accessible. The new playground will benefit both students of the school and families in the <br /> surrounding low- and moderate-income neighborhood. <br /> 2. Applicant: Old King's Orchard Community Center <br /> Project: Old King's Orchard Community Center <br /> Recommended award: $9,095.39 <br /> Prior Funding Received: No (This is a first year request.) <br /> Funds are being used in conjunction with numerous other funding sources for the construction of a <br /> new community center in Decatur's Old King's Orchard neighborhood. The 10,560 square foot <br /> Center is currently under construction and includes a gymnasium and office space. When completed, <br /> the Center will provide space for an after school program, classes, social services, social gatherings, <br /> and various community meetings. <br />
