Applicant: African-American Cultural & Genealogical Society of Illinois,Inc. <br /> Project: African-American Cultural & Genealogical Society of Illinois,Inc. (1) <br /> Recommended award: $14,012.45 <br /> Prior Funding Received: No (This is a first year request.) <br /> The African-American Cultural&Genealogical Societypromotes the study and celebration ofAfrican- <br /> American heritage bymaintaining a museum and conducting prograrns.The Societyutilizes materials from <br /> its collection to prepare exhibits and present programs to prisoners,to children through its school progralns, <br /> and to teens through a youth group outreach. It also sponsors three maj or programs each year. The City <br /> will provide funding to hire a facilitator to keep the Museum open,assist with research and preparation of <br /> materials, and communicate with the public. <br /> 2. Applicant: Community Health Improvement Center <br /> Project.• Community Health Improvement Center(2) <br /> Recommended award: $17,221.57 <br /> Prior Funding Received: Yes (Funds were received in 1997 and 1999. This is a third non- <br /> consecutive year request.) <br /> The Community Health Improvement Center(CHIC)provides comprehensive medical care to over <br /> 7,000 low-income residents of Macon County. CHIC shares several hundred patients in common with <br /> Heritage Behavioral Health Center(HBHC),which serve clients with mental illness or substance disorders. <br /> City funding will allow CHIC to hire a casemanager to work as a liaison between the CHIC medical staff <br /> and the HBHC stafffor the clients they share,thus serving these residents more efficiently and effectively. <br /> 3. Applicant: Coalition of Neighborhood Organizations (CONO) <br />' Project: CONO/CPTED Grant Program(3) <br /> Recommended award: $24,113.95 ; <br /> Prior Funding Received: Yes(Funds were received in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999,and 2000. This �' <br /> is a si�th consecutive year request.) <br /> CONO serves as an umbrella organization for Decatur's neighborhood groups. They promote and <br /> sponsor various community activities,provide a fonun for neighborhood groups to share information and <br /> needs,and run a youth art program in collaboration with Millikin University. They also administer the <br /> CPTED(Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design)prograin for the City of Decatur,which provide <br /> grants of up to$750 to low-and moderate-income residents for security improvements to their homes. <br /> These minor home modifications include security systems,lighting,fencing,and tree trimming. City funding <br /> support these activities. <br />
