EXCERPTS OF THE <br /> MINUTES OF THE MEETING <br /> OF THE <br /> TRAFFIC AND PARKING COMMISSION <br /> Wednesday, November 12, 2003 <br /> Engineering Conference Room <br /> Second Floor, Civic Center <br /> Item#4 Request for 2 hour parking zones on portions of South Oakland Avenue, <br /> West Main Street, and West Wood Street at the request of the Oakwood <br /> Business Association. <br /> Matt Newell stated since Millikin University's parking requirements have become more <br /> restrictive it has resulted in increased long term parking in the area. He informed the <br /> Commission that he had met with the Oakwood Business Association two weeks ago and worked <br /> with them on a restriction aimed at reducing the long term paxking. <br /> Bill Eichenauer mentioned that students from Millikin had been parking for several hours in the <br /> area ma.king parking difficult for customers wanting to patronize the area businesses. At the <br /> present time there is no time restriction for parking. <br /> Staff recommends a two hour limit be established on portions of South Oakland Avenue, West <br /> Main Street, and West Wood Street. Newell stated the enforcement of the time limit will not be <br /> high priority for the meter checkers and this is undestood by Oakwood, however, they should be <br /> able to check the area twice a day. <br /> Lieutenant Kretsinger said the Police Department will also be able to offer some assistance in <br /> helping with the enforcement of the time limit. <br /> It was moved and seconded (Wennecker / Stewart) to follow staff recommendation. Motion <br /> carried unanimously. <br />
