Because of their Cerro Gordo location, Clarkson's rima access to the elevator was from the north. The elevator was recentl P rY Y purchased by Hogan Grain which has its principal office in Elwin. Hogan Grain's primary access to the elevator on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive is from the south. It was determined by the Traffic and Parking Commission that the best access for the site from the south was Cantrell Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. This will reduce truck traffic in the downtown and will keep the trucks from making a difficult eastbound right hand turn to the south at Eldorado Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Cantrell Street are high priority streets in the City and are used as detour routes for northbound Route 51 when downtown functions such as the Decatur Celebration or parades require the closure of Franklin Street. POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: The Decatur Police Department objected to this proposal when it was brought before the Traffic and Parking Commission. The stated concern was that Cantrell Street is largely residential in character and as to the impact of increased truck traffic to the homes on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Cantrell Street.
