Resurfaced streets can last 15 to 20 years. <br /> Pavern�nt naaintenance tecl�niques can be classified into thre.�general categories: <br /> �► Preventative maintenance:crack sealzng,pothole�illing,seal coats,etc. <br /> • Majvr rehabilitation: deep patching and mill&overlays. <br /> � Total reconstruction:total removat of pavement and rebuilding the base. <br /> City crews can perform many of the preventadve maintenance activities including <br /> some deep patches.Constructian contractors perform large patches as well as most <br /> other rehabilitationlreconstruction activities.City cxews could patentially increase <br /> their maintenanee activities,at a Iower cost than contractors,with the proper <br /> resources. <br /> The amount the City spent on pavement nzaintenance it3 2013 calendar y�ar was: <br /> + $419,525 on in-house pavement maintenance activities. <br /> • $1,596,919 on asphalt rehabilitation and z�ecoushuction. <br /> Pavement program deftciencies include: <br /> • The pavement network PCI rating has dropped 7%in the last 5 years,and the <br /> decline will contin�ue at the current funding levels. <br /> • Funds from the State Motor Fuel Tax have been de.creasing due to declining <br /> pvpulation and other factors. <br /> • Capital funds bein.g re�dixected frozn pavement maintenance and allocated to <br /> other priorities. <br /> • Almost no dedicated funds for concrete and brick street mazntenance. <br /> * MFT fiwds are now being used to purehase salt for sn.aw and ice control when <br /> before salt was purchased with general funds.
