The most recent discussions have occurred with Council on November 2 and 16 of 2015
and February 2 of this year. At that meeting Council requested that a study session be held for
further investigation and discussion of the issues.
Many roadways in the City of Decatur are in need of repair. The City of Decatur has a
Pavement Master Plan(Executive Summary attached). This plan was provided to the City
Council approximately one (1) year ago and again in November 2015 and can be found on the
City's website at http://www.decaturil.gov/publicinformation.html under Notices. This Plan was
completed in January 2013 and provided to the City Council in June 2013. The goal of the Plan
is to remain knowledgeable about pavement conditions so we can stay ahead of pavement
deterioration trends and monitor how changes made to our pavement maintenance and funding
strategies affect pavement conditions.
Our comparable communities have local motor fuel taxes. The following table sets out
those communities and their tax rates. The amount they collect in revenue will vary based on the
amount of gallons of motor fuel purchased in their individual communities.
Municipalities with Local Motor Fuel Taxes
City Tax Rate
Bloomington, IL 4 ¢
Carbondale, IL 3 ¢
Champaign, IL 4 ¢
Danville, IL 7.5 ¢ non-diesel
4.6 ¢ diesel
Galesburg, IL 4.5 ¢
Normal, IL 4 ¢
Pekin, IL 4 ¢
Peoria, IL 5 ¢
Urbana, IL 5 ¢
Updated January,2016
