As with any type of proposed revenue source, there are advantages and disadvantages to
the motor fuel tax. Council has discussed and wrestled with this issue over the years and in
much greater detail these past few months. The advantages would include,
*Fuel costs are low currently
*Affects all who purchase fuel in the City
*Non-residents will also pay
*Would generate positive cash flow within two months of implementation
The disadvantages would include,
*Based solely on consumption; will not grow with inflation naturally
*Reduction in gallons purchased may decrease in City if consumers purchase
outside
*Will require City staff to administer
City staff will be available to answer questions.
