EXECU'�NE SIfPV1:lYIARY <br /> (UPAATED JANUARX 20].S� <br /> The cond'ztion of Decatur's streets is declining.Witb:8251aue-m,iles ofpavement to <br /> rx�aintain and the size of the street network expected ta grow,a strategy must be <br /> developed to address the City's distressed pav�ment.Street pavement is like any major <br /> investment,it needs preventative maintenance to extend its life,and it needs <br /> rehabilitatian thraughout its lzfe ta avoid the cost of completely replacizag the sbreet.It <br /> has been deternli.ned that investing more in pavement early on,saves money in the <br /> long run. <br /> The City of Decatur maintains: <br /> • 696 lane-miles of asphait streets. <br /> • 931ane-miles o£concrete streets. <br /> « 221ane-miles ofbrick streets. <br /> • 141azie-miles of surface treatment streets. <br /> Between 1990 and 2400 the City was grawi�ag at a rate of 0.46 square miles per year <br /> with 1.25 miles af road being added ta the City each year.These rates have siowed <br /> since 2000 with p.10 square miles of area and 0.80 miles of road added ta the Czty <br /> each year. <br /> City staff inspects half of the streets maintained by the City each year,and uses a <br /> pavement mana$ement system developed by Lucity,Inc.fo mai.ntain inspection data <br /> and estimate pavement condition resulting fram variaus levels of investment. <br /> A pavern�nt ratiug scale called the�'avement Condition I�adex{PCn is used to rate the <br /> streets.These ratings can be gen�ralized"Excellent","Good",`°Fair","Poor,',"Very ' <br /> Poor",or"Failed".
