Page 2
In early 2001, City staff was attempting to develop a City Ordinance that would allow Class II
truck access on a wider range of City streets under certain conditions. To date, the difficulty of
determining the proper language and other more pressing priorities have kept staff from
developing a more general truck access ordinance. It is likely that this proposed ordinance will
not be forthcoming in the near future. It is staffs desire that permanent Class II truck access be
maintained on these streets and that the attached ordinance be approved.
The attached map shows the current truck routes maintained by the Cty along with the proposed
street segments to be added to the system.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objections to this
resolution and agreement.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Decatur Police and Legal Departments
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell, City Engineer, at 424-2747
Steve Jones, Asst. Corporation Counsel, at 424-2807
The City Engineer, Matt Newell, will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any
questions of the Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
Class II truck route signs are currently in place for the proposed truck routes. The limited
number of heavy trucks that use the roads proposed for designation should have limited impact
on the condition of the streets. ',
attach: 2
cc: John Smith, Assistant City Manager of Public Services
Steve Jones, Assistant Corporation Counsel
Lynn Clarkson, Clarkson Grain Company
Ed Woare, Woare Builders Supply
Bill Tyus, Herald and Review
