d. Assists personal computer users having problems using computer software and <br /> hardware or inquiring how to use specific software, such as statistical, graphics, <br /> data base, printing, word processing, electronic mail, network, and operating <br />, systems. Assists users in developing software applications at the personal <br /> computer level or customizing standard vendor-supplied software packages to <br /> increase productivity. <br /> e. Installs, maintains, and configures, and monitors microcomputer programs, <br /> operating systems, and components to optimize performance, memory utilization, <br /> and reliability. <br /> f. Installs, maintains, and configures, and monitors network software, operating <br /> systems, and components to optimize performance, bandwidth utilization, and <br /> reliability. <br /> g. Determines cause of personal computer and local area network hardware, <br /> operating system, and application software component failures and develops <br /> and/or applies fixes for these failures. <br /> h. Is available to solve and correct personal computer and network operating system <br /> component problems on a rotating 24 hour on-call basis, including weekends if <br /> necessary. This includes carrying and responding to a pager on a 24-hour basis, <br /> as assigned. <br /> i. Coordinates and implements security and anti-viral measures to safeguard <br /> information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, <br /> destruction, or disclosure. <br /> j. Keeps management informed orally and in writing of problems and activities <br /> within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond limits of authority <br /> and expertise to management for direction. <br /> k. Maintains inventory records of City's hardware and software. Documents all <br /> changes made by use of the on-line Inventory Control System. Conducts <br /> semiannual audits of microcomputer equipment and records findings. <br /> l. Performs routine and advanced network administration functions: initiates data <br /> backups; restores data from backup media; takes emergency actions in accordance <br /> with established procedures to restore local area network functionality in the event <br /> of an interruption; maintains the internal security of computer networks by <br /> assigning passwords and implementing original and revised levels of authority for <br /> all system users; isolates, identifies, and remedies causes of network failures <br /> which do not respond to routine fixes. <br /> 5. Successfully participates in educational activities provided, in-house or off-site, to �'i <br /> maintain currency with evolving technologies, to master new skills required by advances <br /> in microcomputer and network technologies, and to master the skills required by the <br /> position of Senior Network Support Specialist. <br /> 6. Responsible for coordinating with the State of Illinois LEADS system to determine <br /> equipment,phone line capacity, and network issues on the new LEADS system. <br />
