 .
Newell stated that a four-way stop would not address that either. There are other things that
could be looked at to address this problem. A traffic circle or diverter could be installed.
Ballard stated that the people on the street would be opposed to diverters.
Mr. Works believes that stop signs on the side streets would defeat the purpose, because Leafland
would be a straight shot to Woodford and the speeds would increase.
Moore asked if traffic calming devices could be installed, like four-inch speed bumps, to slow
speeds at an intersection. If stop signs do not do what they are supposed to do, could that be an
alternative?
Newell advised these bumps would have to be put down every 200 or 300 feet to be effective.
The best way to address the cut-through traffic problem would be with diverters or a traffic circle.
If traffic counters are put out again, the counts would be about what they were the first time. He
believes the speeds will be about the same. It would be different if they are down on a Sunday
because of Church traffic, but even then the volumes would be lower on a Sunday.
The vote on the motion was seven ayes and one nay(Newell). The motion carried.
The item will be taken to City Council. Newell will notify the residents of the date.
