(Page 2) <br /> Attached hereto is a copy of the original petition and a copy of the minutes for said hearing which <br /> includes the staffrecommendation. In support of staffs position, we reiterate that the existing <br /> regulations were recently adopted i�March, 1996. At that time, there was considerable <br /> discussion relative to construction of billboards and the resulting aesthetic effect on the <br /> community in general. In efforts to allow what was determined to be reasonable at that time, and <br /> noting that these regulations were comparable to those of other cities in Illinois of similar size, the <br /> existing regulations were adopted. Moreover, the subject regulations are actually less restrictive <br /> than others noted as the City of Decatur Zoning Ordinance permits two billboard sign faces of <br /> 300 square feet in each of two directions while the other comparable cities allow only one sign <br /> face of three hundred square feet in each of two directions. <br /> Lastly, staff notes that, in our opinion. if the existing regulations are arbitrarily varied at this <br /> juncture, future requests of this nature would be difficult to deny; the resulting effect would be a <br /> change in the subject regulations as presently adopted. <br />
