Mr. McQueen stated that <br /> staff was advised by the Engineering Division that a left turn was possible with enough room to <br /> pass. <br /> A lady from the audience went to the chalkboard and sketched the intersection. She stated that <br /> there is only a driving lane and if a left t�rn lane were created there would be numerous <br /> accidents. Mr. McQueen noted that there would not always be someone waiting to turn left and <br /> � the proposed o�ce would not generate a great deal of traffic. <br /> Motion carried with five yea votes and three nay votes. Those voting yea: Commissioners Berk, <br /> Cherry, Sands, Schiller and Swartz. Those voting nay: Commissioners Finney, Shampine and <br /> Washington. <br /> Cal. No. 96-44 Petition of SAMUEL A. McCLURE to rezone the premises commonly <br /> known as 360 North Fairway Avenue from R-1 Single Family Residence <br /> District to B-2 Commercial District. <br /> Mr. Samuel McClure was present and spoke for the petition stating his request to change the <br /> zoning from residential to commercial zoning. Mr. McClure stated that he has had a feder.al <br /> firearms license for 25 years and he is a gunsmith. A commercial zoning is required in order for <br /> Mr. McClure to keep his license. He noted that the property is located near the entrance of the <br /> Holiday Inn and there are other existing commercial uses in the area. The nearby existing <br /> residences are reportedly owned by Holiday Inn. <br /> There were no objectors present. <br /> Mr. McQueen presented the recommendation of staff: <br /> The subject petition requests the premises commonly known as 360 North Fairway Avenue be <br /> rezoned from R-1 Single Family Residence District to B-2 Commercial District. The existing lot <br /> is presendy developed with a single family dwelling, and the stated purpose of the proposed zone <br /> is to establish a commercial zone in accordance with nearby zoning classifications. <br /> Staff notes that adjoining property to the east is zoned B-2 Commercial and occupied by the <br /> Holiday Inn. Property to the immediate west across Fairway Avenue is zoned B-2 under Macon <br /> County Zoning regulations, and properry west across Wyckles Road is also zoned B-2 <br /> Commercial. Staff has been advised that the vacant commercial land to the west as noted is <br /> owned by the Holiday Inn, which also reportedly owns vacant land along the east side of Fairway <br /> - Avenue south of the subject uact. <br />
