The closures would take place on the east side of Monroe. The reasons the neighborhood
wants the area closed are to deter increased traffic and criminal activity in their neighborhood, as
well as, promote beautification and identification of the Macon Place Neighborhood. Additional
lighting of the area is also being studied along with historic preservation.
Public meetings have been held with residents in the azea and they aze supportive of the plan to
temporarily close the streets. Representatives from the Neighborhood Services Division, Decatur
Police, Public Works, and the Mayor have also met with neighborhood representatives, who pre-
sented their ideas to city staff to work out a feasible plan to temporarily block the streets.
The temporary closures would be in effect for 12-15 months. This time period allows city staff
ample time to study the affects the closures would have on the neighborhood and to develop
long-term solutions for closures.
