Newell, Traffic Engineer � ��:��' <br /> Subject: Proposed Temporary Street Closures For Macon Place <br /> I have attached a map and the relevant minutes from the October Traffic and Parking Commission <br /> meeting where the proposed street/alley closures in the Macon Place neighborhood were discussed and <br /> approved. These closures are designed to discourage vehicle/pedestrian traffic from traveling through this <br /> neighborhood. The closures will be accomplished through the use of large pIanters in much the same way <br /> as barriers were used in the Old King's Orchard neighborhood. These planters will be in place for a little <br /> over a year prior to the determination to install permanent improvements. <br /> I have had conversations with the DMH Thrift Shop (553 W. Wood St.) and an adjacent property <br /> owner (574 W. Macon St.) regarding the proposed closure on the first alley south of Wood Street east of <br /> Monroe. The property owner and the thrift shop are in agreement with the closure and its location. <br /> I have met with Mr. David Brown who is the owner of the apartment building (340 S. Monroe St.) <br /> adjacent to the first alley south of Macon and have been unable to resolve his concerns regarding the <br /> removal of direct access to Monroe for his renters. Mr. Brown proposed that the closure be placed on the <br /> interior of the alley at his east property line. This proposal places the closure approximately 100 feet east <br /> of Monroe at a location not easily visible from the street. By virtue of visibility, this relocation does not <br /> support the visual barrier along Monroe Street that we are trying to implement with this project. To <br /> provide the most functional crime prevention design for the Macon Place neighborhood, the alley needs to <br /> be closed at Monroe. The neighborhood agrees with and supports the Monroe Street closure location. <br />� I will be available to answer any questions you may have. <br /> cc: Bruce A. McNabb <br />
