,
 '
MINUTES OF THE MEETING
OF THE
TRAFFIC AND PARKING COMMISSION
Wednesday, June 14, 1995
Engineering Conference Room, Decatur Civic Center
The 3une 14, 1995, meeting of the Traffic and Parking Commission was called to order at 4:05
p.m. in the Engineering Conference Room, Third Floor, Decatur Civic Center, by Glen Nordholm,
who determined a quorum present.
Members Present: Citizens: Judy Moss, Glen Nordholm, Phillip Bauer and Bruce Moore
Staff• Matt Newell Battalion Chief Mark Hansen and Lt. Mark
,
Barthelemy
Other StaffPresent: Cathy Kunzeman
Others Present: Elizabeth Hurd, 1545 East Division Street
ITEM#1 Request to install stop signs at the intersection of Division and Folk Streets.
Matt Newell received a petition from Mrs. Hurd requesting a stop sign at this intersection. She
circulated the petition because there was an accident there in April. The accident history for the
past three years shows there have been about two accidents every three years in this intersection.
Traffic counts are low. Because of the low volumes, having two accidents in three years is cause
for concern. The sight distance is cluttered and it is hard to see oncoming vehicles.
Mrs. Hurd stated that she has lived in this neighborhood for eight years. From Wednesday to
Saturday evening each week, there is a lot of traffic on Division. There are a lot of kids in the
neighborhood. A dog was hit last week. She is asking for a stop sign. From Woodford to
Division a lot of young kids speed through the area. The area residents now stop at the
intersection because of the last accident.
Glen Nordholm visited the intersection and believes it looks like a lot of other intersections in the
city. The Commission has heard statistics about stop signs and what they try to correct, and also
other problems they create. He does not see a problem with a stop sign, although he does not
think this intersection looks different from any other intersection in this town.
Newell stated that this town is too large for the Commission to look at every intersection. He
only responds to those where he has received a complaint, and then investigates them. This
