This demonstrates people driving through
the intersection cannot handle all the other problems here.
Lt. Barthelemy has no problem with stop signs on Folk; he would oppose them on Division.
Judy Moss expressed surprise at the average speeds shown by the traffic counts. Newell advised
the traffic count was done on a Thursday, which Mrs. Hurd said was a heavy traffic day.
BartheleFny believes that people traveling in this area use Division as the through street. A stop
sign on Division would not be obeyed. This would cause worse accidents than what there have
been.
Newell stated that installing stop signs on Folk would not slow the traffic down on Division. He
mentioned there is a police officer assigned to this neighborhood. The neighborhood people have
talked to this officer about a specific person who was causing a problem. The officer has taken
care of that problem. Things like this will stop the speeders.
Moss mentioned that the children of the neighborhood should be made awaze of the trafiYc and
told to stay out of the street. Hurd that this Commission is merely an advisory group to the Council,
who will approve or disapprove the placing of the signs.
It was moved and seconded (Barthelemy/Moss) to accept staff recommendation to place stop
signs at this intersection facing Folk Street. There being no one opposed, the motion carried.
Nordholm added that he is glad we have this kind of system where the residents can come to the
City and voice their concerns, and have something done about them.
Mrs. Hurd is also concerned about the parking at the corner of Division and Woodford. Matt
stated that parking can be pulled back from the corner on the east side of Woodford and that he
will investigate it.
Item#2 Staff request to temporarily change Church Street to two way between Wood and
Eldorado Streets.
Newell received a request from Soy Capital Bank to change Church Street between Wood and
Eldorado Streets from one-way traffic heading north to two-way traffic. Discussion began of
intersections and signalization. The Bank's original thoughts were to expand the drive-up lanes
and this trafic change would benefit them. Newell told them that he would oppose access to the
