The ', <br /> dam was originally constructed in 1922 to ensure an adequate source of water. The Lake creates I <br /> an impoundment of approximately 6 billion gallons. The raw water from Lake Decatur is the ', <br />' sole source of water for the City's water treatment plants. '� <br /> A visual inspection of the dam was performed in November 1999 by an engineering II <br /> consultant firm, Harza Engineering Company. The inspection, carried out in accordance with �, <br /> operating permit number 18207 and the requirements of the Illinois Department of Natural <br /> Resources, resulted in a report entitled "Lake Decatur Dam-1999 Annual Inspection". ' <br /> The report identifies a number of recommendations for the maintenance of the dam. While � <br /> the current condition of the dam does not pose an immediate threat to its structural integrity and I <br /> functionality, it is the recommendation of the Consultant that remedial measures be undertaken at � <br /> this time. <br /> The design for a number of the recommended repair work items is being carried out <br /> in-house by City staf£ However, there are a number of items that require specialized expertise ', <br />, and Harza was requested to submit an `Bngineering Services Proposal" to undertake a design for �, <br />' those items. Harza offers exceptional qualifications in undertaking this type of design.
