� . � ' � Page 2 This year's sidewalk replacement program work will be in the area generally bordered by Wood Street on the north, Maffit Street on the east and Cantrell Street on the south and Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive on the west. Approximately 18,330 square feet of concrete or old brick sidewalk is planned to be replaced in this project(3,6601ineal feet of 5 foot wide sidewalk). The Engineering Division prepared the project contract documents. The project was advertised for bids and four bids were received and opened on March 23, 2000. The results of the bid opening (a bid tabulation is attached) are as follows: Compared to Engineer's Est. Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under� ' Engineer's Estimate $ 100,005.00 --- Karnic Construction, Inc. $ 73,341.00 (26.66) Entler Excavating Co., Inc. $ 84,713.00 (15.29) Bodine Services, Inc. $ 97,470.00 ( 2.53) Christy-Foltz, Inc. $ 118,002.00 18.00 Karnic Construction has completed one project for the City. The work was completed on time and was acceptable. Karnic has provided the required insurance and bonds for the project. ' Funding for this project is from the General Capital Fund. It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for the 1999 Concrete Sidewalk Replacement Program, City Project 9922, to Karnic Construction, Inc. as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder in the amount of their bid price of $73,341.00 and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract.
