Mc b, P.E.,Director of Public Works
jStephen Swans n, P.E., City Engineer
yKris Quandt, I.T., Civil Engineer I
SUBJECT: 21st Street Sewer Separation Drainage Area 4
City Project 9828
The neighborhood generally bounded by 19th Street on the west, Lawrence Street on the
north, 22nd Street on the east and Cantrell Street on the south (refer to attached locale map),
experiences considerable drainage problems during heavy rainstorms. The City contracted with
the consulting firm of Bainbridge, Gee, Milanski & Associates, Inc. (BGM), in 1988, to design
the improvements to mitigate the drainage problems in this area. BGM completed the design
project, but the City did not pursue the construction of the improvements in 1988, because of
budgetary reasons.
The decision to proceed with the drainage improvements, at this time, was the result of
the streets in the area needing to be reconstructed. City staff did not want to make the street
improvements knowing that major drainage improvements were also needed. For this reason, it
was decided to defer the street improvements until the drainage improvements were completed.
The City contracted with BGM in 1999,to update the plans for the drainage improvements.
