Collins, r., Director of Co u Develop ent, Planning and Transit
Max Forgey, AI P, Senior Planner
Hala Ahmed, Environmental Planne---
SUBJECT: Authorization to Sign an Agreement with Macon County Solid Waste
Management Department
This is to request authorization to sign a grant agreement with Macon County Solid Waste
Management Department for the provision of funds to the City of Decatur. The grant will assist
in the operation and expansion of the Decatur recycling program. (See Attachment A). The
County has approved the amount of$15,000 for the year 1998/1999 and $45,000 for fiscal year
' 99/00. The grant agreement does not require matching funds from the City.
Since 1991, Macon County has awarded the City of Decatur funds for the administration of the
Decatur curbside recycling program to meet state-mandated recycling rates. Grant money
facilitated the start-up and operation of the Decatur curbside recycling program. Initial funding
extended from 1991 till 1994. Since 1995, the City has requested grant renewal annually. Grant
money was received on a reimbursement basis.
Staff recommends approval of the attached resolution authorizing City Manager to sign a grant
agreement with Macon County Solid Waste Management Department.
