� � <br /> Agreement Between <br /> Partnership for Safe Water <br /> and <br /> I. Common Agreements and Principles <br /> A. This is a voluntary agreement between City of Decatur, Illinois <br /> ("Water Supplier or Water Supply Partner")and the Partnership for Safe Water(American Water <br /> Works Association, Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies,Association of State Drinking <br /> Water Administrators, United States Environmental Protection Agency,National Association of <br /> Water Companies,American Water Works Association Research Foundation). <br /> B. The Partners agree that the primary purpose of the Partnership for Safe Water is to encourage <br /> U.S.water suppliers to survey their facilities,treatment processes,operating and maintenance <br /> procedures, and management oversight practices to identify areas that will enhance the water <br /> system's potential to prevent the entry of Cryptosporidium, Giardia and other microbial <br /> contaminants to treated water,and to voluntarily implement those actions that are appropriate for <br /> the system. <br /> C. The Partners agree that implementation of Partnership for Safe Water measures,as appropriate <br /> for each water supply system,may significantly reduce the potential risks to drinking water <br /> consumers from Cryptosporidium, Giardia and other microbial contaminants. <br /> D. The Partners agree that the intent of the program is improvement of existing processes and that <br /> major capitai expenditures are not anticipated or required as part of the program. <br /> E. The Partners agree that communicating the Partner's commitments(as stated in this Partnership <br /> Agreement)to the public demonstrates: <br /> • the continuing commitment of the Water Supply Partner to provide safe, high quality <br /> drinking water to the public, <br /> • the commitment of Federal and local communities to work together to safeguard the quality <br /> of drinking water and potentially reduce risks, <br /> • the capability of voluntary programs to achieve goals with minimal regulation or in advance <br /> • of regulation, and <br /> • the capability of voluntary programs to identify and demonstrate cost effective treatment <br /> measures. <br /> F. The Partners agree that maintaining public confidence in the credibility of the Partnership for <br /> Safe Water Program and its participants is critical to the shared goals stated above. <br /> Partnership for Safe Water Page 2 <br />
