Swanson, P.E., City Engineer �S <br /> SUBJECT: SWTP Corley Landfill and Vulcan Pit Closures <br /> City Project 9421-B <br /> The City must, as part of the approved closure plans for the Corley Landfill and the Vulcan <br /> Pit area, fence these properties (refer to attached locale map) to restrict access. The Corley site is <br /> an old landfill first used by the City to dump material removed from streets and later used to <br /> dispose of sludge from the City's South Water Treatment Plant (SWTP). It is located west of US <br /> Route 51 and north of State Route 105, immediately west and north of the former Corley's <br /> � Western Wear. The Vulcan Pit closure is required by the Illinois Department of Natural <br /> Resources to restrict access to the area. The Vulcan Pit is located east of Spring Creek, north of <br /> State Route 105, west of Monroe Street and south of the Sangamon River. <br /> The plans and specifications for this project were prepared for the City by Bainbridge, Gee, <br /> Milanski & Associates, Inc. (BGM). The City's Engineering Division prepared the project <br /> manual and advertised the project for bids and directly contacted nine local fencing companies to <br /> inform them of the project. One bid was opened and received on November 4, 1999, in response <br /> to the City's advertisement and notification. The results of the bid opening (a bid tabulation is <br /> attached) are as follows: <br />
