Swanson, P.E., City Engineer �� <br /> SUBJECT: Park Place from West Main Street north to Fairview Park <br /> City Project 9959 <br /> Park Place frorrr West Main Street to its entrance into Fairview Park is an existing brick <br /> street having curb and gutter on both sides. Residents along this street have in the past contacted <br /> the City about problems with the condition of the brick pavement and its curb and gutters. These <br /> problems relate to the rideability of the street, drainage, and the general appearance that it is in <br /> need of maintenance. City maintenance to this street has been limited because of its general <br /> condition relative to other City streets and the corresponding priority street needs throughout the <br /> City. In addition, the costs associated with the full-scale repair and maintenance of the City's <br /> brick streets are expected to be much more expensive than typical contracted street work. The <br /> work associated with removing and salvaging bricks for reuse, preparing the base and resetting <br /> bricks to restore the brick street is much more labor intensive. <br /> The City Council has directed staff to have repairs made to Park Place. Staff has been <br /> infortned of the comments made by residents of the area to Council members about needed street <br /> repairs. Comments have been made about repairing the curb and gutter, a depressed area at the <br /> north end of Park Place near its entrance into the park and other isolated sections of the street that <br /> have settled. It was decided by staff to have a consultant prepare the necessary plans and <br /> specifications for this work. This decision is based on the project needs, the Engineering <br /> Division's current workload and the expected project schedule. <br /> Blank, Wesselink, Cook & Associates, Inc. (BWC) was contacted directly by staff to obtain <br /> a proposal for this project in addition to a proposal for the upgrade to Forest Avenue. This was <br />
