E., Civil Engineer 11 (Sanitary <br /> Sewer) <br /> SUBJECT: Annual Sanitary Sewer Improvements/ Replacements, <br /> City Project 9949 <br /> This is an annual project to improve the structural integrity of sewer lines, <br /> correct inflow/infiltration problems and clean sewers. This year's project includes the <br /> cleaning of 26,794 lineal feet of sewer lines of various sizes located in areas of the City, <br /> and the relining of 3,866 feet of 8 and 10 inch diameter sewer lines. The sewer relining <br /> work is located in the Oak Grove area. Oak Grove is in the northwest side of the City <br /> (refer to the attached map ). <br /> Structurally, the Oak Grove sanitary sewer system was found by City staff to be <br /> in poor shape and its estimated overall condition to be a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 <br /> being the worst condition and 10 being the best. A major problem noted by staff in its <br /> investigation is the high infiltration into the sewer system during wet weather. The <br /> control of problems relating to inflow/ infiltration and the restoration of the structural <br /> integrity of the Oak Grove sanitary sewer system was determined to be a priority by City <br /> staff. <br /> Inflow/infiltration into the sewer is caused by surFace or ground water entering a <br /> sewer pipe through cracks in pipes or disjointed pipe sections and, depending on its <br /> severity, can cause sewer backups and overflows during heavy storm water runoff <br /> events and extended periods of wet weather.
