residents have experienced. This year's annual budget for improvement and
replacement of sanitary sewer cannot address the entire Oak Grove area. This year's
program addresses the areas having the greatest problems.
Staff, after completing its investigation, prepared the project plans and
specifications to correct the most severe problem areas. The project will improve the
overall condition of the repaired sewers to an estimated value of about 8.5.
The cleaning part of this program is to remove sediment and debris that has built
up in older sewers. This restricts flows in the sewers and contributes to flow blockages
causing sewer backup problems to private properties. The areas selected were based
upon citizens calls and inspection reports from the Annual Sewer Inspection Program.
The areas to be cleaned in addition to Oak Grove include:
1. Section of 8-inch sewer south of Wayside Avenue and west of
South Franklin Street.
2. Section of 8-inch sewer south of Van Buren Avenue and east of
Martin Luther King Jr., Drive
3. Several sections of sewer in the Monroe Street and Harper Avenue
area.
4. Sections of sewer in Main Street and the alley to the east, south of
McKinley Avenue to Garfield.
5. Sewers in the area generally bordered by Brownlow Avenue on the
north, South Franklin Street on the east, Drexel Court on the south,
and the railroad tracks on the west.
6. Sections of sewer in the Center StreeUSummit Street area.
7. Sections of sewer in Shadow Lane, from MacArthur Road to
Lawson Avenue.
This is work that the City crews cannot undertake because of existing workload
or because of the resources (i.e. equipment, personnel, etc.) required to do the work
The contract documents for this project were prepared by the City Engineering ,
Division. The project was advertised on August 11, 1999, and bids were received, i
opened and read aloud on September 2, 1999. The results (copy of the bid tabulation is j
attached) of the letting are as follows: ,
