The total cost of training is $8,650.00 of which
80% or $6,920 will be paid by IDOT, leaving the remaining $1,730 (20%)to be paid by the City.
This training has already been scheduled and approved in the current DUATS FY 2000 Unified
Transportation Planning Work Program(UTPWP).
Currently the model is being brought up to calibration by Wilbur Smith Associates (WSA), the
consultants for the 2025 Long Range Transportation Plan and will be ready for continuous update
by staff.
The Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT) has a history of travel demand modeling which
dates back to the 1970's. During this period IDOT and the MPOs developed models for each of the
urbanized areas. In 1994, IDOT contracted with the firm of Bucher, Willis & Ratliff Corporation,
(BWR) to assist develop and calibrate the models and to support and train the MI'O staff, in
association with Transportation Support Group, Inc., in a new set of transportation models using
URBAN/SYS.
In order to receive federal funding for transportation programs, large urban areas (population of
50,000 or more)are required to engage in transportation planning. In areas with a population of over
50,000, an agency is designated as a MPO to complete a number of comprehensive transportation
efforts including a regional transportation plan.
