In addition, this extra flow adds to the volume of waste water that must be <br /> treated by the SDD and adds to the SDD's operating costs. <br /> Staff, after completing its investigation, prepared the project plans and specifications to <br /> correct the problems noted in the investigation. The project includes the installation of chimney <br /> seals around the upper portions of the manholes, manhole adjustment rings to correct <br /> misalignments creating openings, sealing alligator and pinhole cracks in both the barrel and cone <br /> sections of manholes and installing corrosive resistant manhole steps. The objective of this <br /> project is to minimize the storm water inflow/infiltration into the Ellendale sanitary sewer <br /> system. This will reduce the sanitary water backup problems experienced by the residents and <br /> the volume of waste water flow into the SDD system. In addition, the project will increase the <br /> overall rating of the Ellendale sanitary sewer system to an estimated 8.5. <br /> The contract documents for this project were prepared by the City Engineering Division. <br /> The project was advertised on July 7, 1999, and bids were received, opened and read aloud on <br /> July 22, 1999.
