CO1IIUNITY DEVELOPMENT MEMORANDUM
NO. 99- 117
May 19 , 1999
TO: 7ames Williams, Jr., City Manager
FROM: Cecil Collins, Jr., Director of Community Development
William B. Turner, Building Inspections Supervisor
SUBJECT: Generator for Mass Transit
In preparing for the Year 2000, several items that could ca.use some major problems came to
light. At the present time, there is no way to pump fuel from the underground tanks. raise the
overhead doors of the maintenance facility or provide heat and lighting if the electrical power was
disrupted.
It is proposed to purchase a 20 KV diesel-fueled generator set. The 20 KV unit will not provide
power to the facility to operate at 100% efficiency but will provide adequate power for an
emergency situation.
It is suggested the generator set be skid or trailer mounted to facilitate moving the set to the most
critical area of use.
I received a su estion from one of the vendors contacted that we urchase the enerator set
88 P g
directly from the manufacturer and then contact with a local vendor to do the installation. He felt
this would be considerably less expensive.
Attached are the specifications of the generator set for the Mass Transit Facility.
