The second option is to purchase an upgrade for the AS 400 from the current model As 400 SOS <br /> server to an enhanced model AS 400 720 server. The upgrade would consist of utilizing the <br /> same AS 400 box and many of the internal parts, but would add a new processor, memory <br /> enhancements and additional storage growth capability equal to that of the largest AS 400 server. <br /> The estimated increase in processor speed would be 309% faster and an increase in system <br /> memory from 192MB to 256MB. <br /> Recommendation <br /> The recommendation of the Decatur Police Department and Management Services is to purchase <br /> the upgrade to the AS 400 from Levi, Ray and Shoup at a cost of$35,000. Although option one <br /> is less money, it only gives the unit a functional life of one year to 18 months before a new unit <br /> will be required. Additionally, option two does not add the needed system memory and <br /> processorspeed. <br />
