OF'EC
• ~ .9G
V 7C
:f
'/[LINO`'
July 12, 1999
PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM
NO. 99-36
MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: James L. Williams,Jr., City Manager
Bruce A. McNabb, P. E., Director of Public Works
Stephen P. Swanson, P. E., City EngineerU'/
SUBJECT: Miscellaneous Storm Sewer Improvements
City Project 9710
The City's miscellaneous storm sewer program involves constructing drainage
improvements at various locations throughout the City. The locations are selected from the list
of reported or known drainage problem areas maintained by the Engineering Division. Projects
included in this program are intended to correct localized drainage problems and will typically
have an estimated cost of less $15,000 per location.
The selection of a location from the list is based on:
(1)the problem being the City's responsibility
(2)the estimated cost
(3)the general number of properties benefited
(4) safety or health considerations
(5) the ability of the Engineering Division to provide the required design services
(6)the availability of public easements or rights-of-ways
(7) when the problem was first reported to the City Engineer's Office.
Projects are not selected solely on a first come, first served basis. A formal rating system
has not been implemented by the Division. The update to the City's Storm Water Plan will
provide a priority rating system to ensure greater consistency in staffls decision process to select
a project.Typically, the Division targets the undertaking of 4 to 6 projects of this type depending
on the preliminary estimated costs and the approved project funding. Three separate locations
are included in this project and are as follows:
Lake Bluff Drive and Redlich Drive. Install an inlet and outfall culvert on the west side of
Lake Bluff Drive and install concrete rip-rap structures on the east side of Lost Bridge Road
